Member Highlight: Kathy Hunter
This week we got to know Kathy Hunter! She shares a bit about her family, career, and what she enjoys most about being a member here at QSC.
On Family
I grew up in Yonkers, New York where I attended parochial school and business school. I married my high school sweetheart, James, and we built a home in Yorktown Heights, NY. I was married for 51 years until he passed away in 2021. We have one son, James, Jr., who lives in Central Valley, NY, and a daughter, Kimberly, who lives with her husband Jason, and the two loves of my life, my grandsons Maverick (6) and Theodore (2) in Yorktown Heights in the home my husband and I built.
On Career
I had a long and wonderful career with Pepsi Co. serving in various capacities, including finance, marketing and legal. In my 42 years with the company, I worked with four different chairmen, one chairwoman, and colleagues and clients from around the globe. I met many celebrities including Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, and Aretha Franklin!
One of my favorite memories was organizing an event for our head bottlers from around the world. I rented out Ellis Island and transformed it into a beautiful resort-like setting, complete with an elegant five-course meal, dancing and fireworks. I also managed several prestigious Polo Matches at Conyers Farm in Greenwich, CT where all funds raised went directly into scholarships for Marymount College, which is now Fordham University.
I went on to graduate with a degree in Business and Management from Marymount College, in Tarrytown, NY, also taking courses in Business Law, Finance and Marketing.
On Life in the Queensbury Area
We started coming to the Adirondacks on vacation and decided to purchase a second home in Queensbury in 2011. We began spending more and more time here because we love the area and the people here, who are so warm and welcoming.
I am a member of the Soroptimist International of the Adirondacks who focus on helping women and children in need, and I enjoy participating in classic car shows in the area.
On Joining the Queensbury Seniors
I joined the Queensbury Seniors in 2019 and enjoy playing Dominoes on Mondays, helping with the Annual Basket Raffle, and traveling. I cherish all of the friends I have made here at the center – it has been a remarkable outlet for me.
